Kolongola Village
Team Tumaini pursued several new initiatives for 2008. One project involved
a small village call Kolongola. In this village were 15 widows and
grandmothers who were raising over 70 children.

The Team meets with the village Elders

The Team has brought food and blankets to support these women

Don and Julie hand out blankets

The children wait to see what is going to happen

Now they know - they got school uniforms!!

This mom appreciated the food and blankets but was thrilled that her
children could now go to school

This young girl will now be able to go to school for the first time

In many parts of Kenya, children like these along the road cannot go to school
because their parents can't afford the $20 for a uniform or shoes

Sandy giving out treats to children who can't go to school because they have no uniform
Food Distribution Program
Team Tumaini has undertaken an extensive food program in an effort to ease the
situation in Kenya which is experiencing drought conditions. As a consequence food supplies are low and food prices are high, well beyond the financial means of many.

Food sorted and stacked for distribution in four different areas.
Overall, 33,000 pounds of food and 600 blankets were distributed.

52 weeks of the year. For the majority of them it is the only meal they get each day.
Other Program Involvement
Team Tumaini continues to participate in other programs initiated from earlier
trips to Kenya. Following are just a few.

Team Tumaini provides assistance to Sister Luciana and the children
of St. Mary's school in Kibera, Nairobi

Children at St. Mary's school received books from Sandy Foster made by
Grade 11 and 12 students at F.J. McElligott Secondary School in Mattawa, Ontario

High School orphans in Kibera make cards that Sandy sells in Canada to
help provide funds to keep them in school

Each orphan has a specific job to do when making the cards

Kids at the Kaibeiyo orphanage outside Eldoret, Kitale with the new
mattresses that the Team purchase for them

Children at Kaibeiyo school received new pencils. For many of them it was
the first new pencil they had ever owned.

Sandy has had a long relationship with the Masaii women. They do beadwork which Sandy sells in Canada giving them extra money with which to feed their families

Sometimes Team members encounter opportunities to help individuals who
are not associated with any organized program. Here, Cathy McCallum
calls on her expertise to show a mom how to exercise the arms and
legs of a developmentally and physically challenged child

The Team has many interests. Here they visit Webyue, a Boarding School for the deaf

This sewing machine was purchased to help a woman with her micro business
All in all, a very successful trip in 2008
